        Abstract

In this paper, the influence of different substrate materials on the performance of a triple-band notched frequency of ultra-wide band (UWB) antenna is presented. The antenna has a rectangular shape with dimension 31 by 24 mm and operates at UWB frequency band of 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. The antenna was simulated using HFSS software. The effect of eight different substrate materials with different dielectric constant was examined on the antenna. Under each substrate, the performance of the antenna was investigated based on the antenna gain, directivity, radiation pattern, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), impedance bandwidth and S-parameter. Through thorough analysis, the results gave strong indication that UWB antenna performance is greatly affected by the type of dielectric substrate material chosen for design. The paper demonstrates the effect dielectric substrate material has on the antenna performance measurement like radiation pattern, gain, directivity and VSWR.
